Bienvenidos al mundo español de la Señora Conaway
I am looking forward to a successful and interesting course of study.
Sra. Conaway in Paris during the SDHS trip to Spain and France in 2010.
All levels of study will expand upon students' knowledge of the Spanish language and various Hispanic cultures acquired in previous levels of study. Students will develop communicative, linguistic, and cultural competence through a variety of activities using the skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Practice and use of the language in functional situations will be required; therefore students are expected to speak only in Spanish after class begins. English will be used only for purposes of expalanation and clarification.
Students will be expected to follow class and school rules as stated in the Code of Conduct for Worcester County. Following are some additional suggestions for success in all levels of Spanish study.
1. Give 100%! Come to class each day prepared with the textbook, Spanish notebook, paper, pencil, and completed homework.
2.Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.
3.Treat others as you would want to be treated--with respect.
4.Be aware of your safety and the safety of others.
5.Remember the Decatur way is the way to grow through Pride, Achievement, Responsibility, and Respect.
Classroom Procedures/Behavior
1. Attendence: MANDATORY!!!
In order to gain proficiency in a foreign language, you must be present for the necessary oral practive and grammar explanations. New concepts will be presented every day. Absences make the learning process more difficult.
2. You are expected to be in the classroom...seated...and ready to start class before the bell rings.
3. Lateness will not be tolerated. If you are detained by a teacher, bring an admittance note from said teacher. Two unexcused tardies will result in detention. Additional tardies will result in an office referral.
4. Missed Classes
Work missed during an absence is your responsibility and must be made up. You should find out what you missed and how/when you can make it up.
a) Excused absences: You have five days to complete and submit work (class assignments, homework, tests, and quizzes). Failure to do so will result in a 0 for each assignment or test/quiz missed.
b) Unexcused absences: you will receive a 0 for each assignment or test/quiz missed.
5. Use of the "Hallway Passport" in the student agendas is reserved for emergencies. Students will not be permitted to leave the classroom without the agenda booklets. Students will be permitted to use the Hallway Passport two times per semester.
6. No cell phone use is allowed in class. Cell phones can and will be confiscated as outlined in the Worcester County Code of Conduct.
Grading Policy
Students in this class will be graded using a point system by taking quizzes and tests, doing written and electronically submitted homework assignments, and through class participation. The ability to communicate is very significant when learning a foreign language. Therefore, it is very important that the students participate in class and small groups.
Homework will be checked randomly. Homework that is not done or partially done is worth zero points. Total point value will be given if the assignment is complete.
Cases of cheating/academic dishonesty will be handled as stated in the student Agenda. The use of electronic or Internet translators will be considered a form of cheating.
